Trekking in the Khumbu region of Nepal is logistically very easy when you utilise the local infrastructure. The Sherpa people are very friendly and helpful, and Members will have the chance to stay for 2 nights to acclimatise in Khumjung, where all of our local staff come from.

The mountain scenery is stunning and the paths are well formed and maintained, which makes for very easy walking. The days trek will vary from just 1 – 5 hours with a lunch break on the longer days. Each day Members need to pack their equipment into a kit bag, and this will be carried by porter or yak to the next lodge. All that Members need to carry is a small day pack with warm clothing, snack food, water and camera.

The last two villages before Everest BC are Lobuche and Gorak Shep. Himalayan Experience recognises that both of these villages are very busy and hence the lodges are crowded and one often has to wait a long time for meals. Members will use our Himalayan Experience Lobuche Peak Base Camp, and as we have made our Everest Base Camp lower than the traditional camp, we will use the Himalayan Experience Everest Base Camp instead of Gorak Shep. This gives us flexibility and greater control over the quality of meals at this high altitude. Members will have access to all the facilities that our Expedition Members have at these camps, including email and hot showers. Apart from these two camps, all other accommodation is in lodges.

From the comfortable Base Camp (4,910m) members ascend up a scree slope to reach the West Ridge where Camp 1 (5,600m) is situated. We spend one night in this basic camp before an early start the following morning.

The route continues up a steep snow slope that will have fixed ropes, to gain the final ridge which is often broken by crevasses. The descent returns the same way, arriving at Base Camp on the same day.
